TRANSITIONAL PERIOD EXTENDED BY ISO STANDARDS

TRANSITIONAL PERIOD EXTENDED BY ISO STANDARDS

Given the impact COVID-19 has had on audits, the IAF has extended the transition period for all recently revised ISO management system standards by six months. The new transition period affects i.a. the ISO standards ISO 45001:2018 for Safety and Health at work (SGA) and ISO 50001:2018 for Energy Management.

Information about the new transition periods for ISO standards can be found in a response to the FAQ page of the IAF (International Accreditation Forum) from April 3, 2020. There is also an update available from April 11 regarding the use of remote audits). The measure to extend transitional periods is primarily due to the fact that regular on-site audit work will not be possible or will only be possible in a significantly reduced manner for the foreseeable future.  Under these circumstances, the requirement to meet the deadlines published are unfortunately not feasible.

NEW TRANSITIONAL PERIODS FOR ISO STANDARDS

  1. Transition from BS OHSAS 18001 TO ISO 45001

The original regulation in the SGA area stipulated that all certificates according to BS OHSAS 18001 will expire on March 11, 2021 and the transition to ISO 45001 must be completed. Please be aware that DAkkS have postponed this date by three weeks to March 31, 2021. A new deadline has been specified for the transition to ISO 45001; SGA management systems can still be audited against BS OHSAS 18001 until September 30, 2021

  1. Transition from ISO 50001:2011 TO ISO 50001:2018

The deadline for certification according to ISO 50001:2011 was originally August 20, 2021. The new expiry date of the old ISO 50001 certificates now falls on February 20, 2022.

The deadline for audits against the older version was February 20, 2020. Only audits according to the new version, ISO 50001: 2018, are accepted.
