Cloud technology, Interconnectedness, Artificial Intelligence – a lot has happened since 2016. This fact will soon be reflected in the BRCGS Storage and Distribution Standard. Market developments such as digital literacy and efficient supply chain solutions will be mentioned in the updated version. Publication is scheduled for November 2020, audits are scheduled to begin in May 2021.
The BRCGS Storage and Distribution Standard defines quality and security standards for the storage and transport of products from the food and non-food sectors. The standard closes the gap between production and trade and thus increases transparency and security along the entire supply chain.
In the new version, two key areas – Cross Docking & Integrated Ecommerce – are offered as additional voluntary modules. For companies, the additional modules provides a framework and criteria to mitigate any additional risk to the supply chain from activities bespoke to these sectors.
The new standard, which will be GFSI benchmarked, will also include requirements for product safety and quality culture, confidential reporting, automation & robotics technology, allergen management and a single, newly created, section on open product handling requirements.
Publication is expected in November 2020, audits are scheduled to begin in May 2021.
