In the ISO 19011:2011 Standard, competence is defined as the ability to apply knowledge and skills to achieve the intended results. The ability to apply knowledge is very much dependent on the respective individual. With this in mind, DQS acknowledges the need to ensure that all our auditors are able to apply knowledge in the shortest time possible, ideally immediately after acquiring the knowledge. In order to ensure continual consistency of the application of knowledge, all our auditors are required to undergo a compulsory annual auditor exchange. Different programs are run for the different standards that each auditors are qualified to perform. Discussion, exchange of experience, case studies based on the real situation encountered, presentation of relevant news of the industry etc are platforms that DQS auditors are already familiar and look forward to each year.
Knowledge is deployed from our headquarter in Frankfurt to the identified regional trainers who are then sent for the Train the Trainer training. This year, the Train the Trainer training for the Far East offices was organized in Hong Kong and training was headed by one of the Director in the DQS group, Mr. Frank Graichen. The trainers themselves go through an extensive training and exchange with their counterpart from other DQS offices. The trainers then deployed the knowledge to their respective auditor pool in their local offices.
2 sessions of the auditor exchange had been completed and it had been a great platform to gather all the auditors and share experience, taking time off from their normal auditing duties. Session of discussions were done in an atmosphere that encourages everyone to participate and there were not short of jokes going around to ensure a jovial and lively discussions. The auditor exchange was also attended by a representative from DQS Vietnam and brings with him also insight of the Vietnamese customers.
2 more session of the auditor exchanged had been scheduled and will be conducted soon including 1 session specifically for our Food Safety Management System auditors that are involved in ISO 22000, HACCP, BRC, FSSC 22000, IFS and other food safety management system related assessments.
On top of this, throughout the year, there are many other platforms that DQS auditors engage in as part of their continual professional development. As much as our auditors assess competency of employees performing work affecting conformity to product or service requirements in their course of audit, DQS also subscribes to the same control for our auditors.
